The much-anticipated opening of Rough & Tumble is here: The women’s sports bar opens Friday at 5309 22nd Ave NW.
Rough & Tumble has moved into the former Sawyer location in the Henry Whyte Building on Shilshole and 22nd.

Owner and founder Jen Barnes said the idea for Rough & Tumble was born from a desire to watch women’s sports on the big screen, “with sound, and not in my living room. Today, I’m investing in women’s sports and the business of women’s sports because it’s an imperative.”
Barnes said Rough & Tumble will prioritize women’s sports, with a focus on OL Reign, Seattle Storm, and women’s collegiate games. The bar will have a 110-foot video wall with 18 screens, which Barnes said will feature a number of both men’s and women’s sports—the Seahawks, Kraken, Mariners, and Sounders will all be broadcast in the bar.

Chef Tessa Roberts is heading up the kitchen, with pub classics and ingredients from farmers at the Ballard Farmers Market.
“It’s great to see this vision come to life as the demand for women’s sports is increasing at a rapid rate. This past season we witnessed teams across the league shatter attendance records, including OL Reign, and for the first time ever the NWSL Championship aired during primetime, breaking viewership records,” Michelle Haines, OL Reign’s VP of Marketing & Ticketing said in a statement about Rough & Tumble. “We’re thrilled that there will be a new home for fans of women’s sports to gather together and very excited for our loyal supporters to have a new and inclusive environment to watch all our matches.”

Along with broadcasting games, Rough & Tumble will also host athletes, special guests, and private events.
Opening day is Friday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m., and their hours will be Monday to Thursday 3 p.m. to midnight, Friday 2 p.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Lagunitas Taproom will be closing permanently next month after a six-year run in Ballard.
The Washington Beer Blog first reported the news, saying the brewery wants to shift its focus to other locations in Petaluma and Chicago rather than put resources into the Ballard location.
Lagunitas opened in January 2017 in what was once the Hilliard’s Beer space at 1550 49th St NW.
Lagunitas’ last day will be January 8. In honor of their closing, the taproom will host live music for their last few days open, with the Dusty 45s headlining the weekend shows.

With plans to turn the site into a 238-unit apartment complex, a major multifamily developer closed on a six-parcel assemblage in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood for $28.7 million, according to an announcement from First Western Properties, which represented the buyer in the transaction. Holland Partner Group purchased the parcels located at the corner of NW Market Street and 24th Avenue NW. The seller was not listed.
Earlier this year, the project, called Market and 24th, was approved at a Design Review Recommendation meeting held by the Northwest Design Review Board, according to previous reporting from The Registry. The seven-story development includes parking for 168 vehicles and ground floor retail space. San Diego-based architecture firm Carrier Johnson + CULTURE is the architect and Kirkland-based The Blueline Group is the landscape architect.
Holland is based in Vancouver, Wash., and according to its website, is a fully integrated real estate investment company with two decades of experience, more than 750 team members and nearly 40,000 units built, developed, acquired and transacted since the firm’s founding. The group works with “world-class lifestyle experience designers, architects, interior designers, sustainable consultants, landscape artists, and technologists to conceive exceptional new residential communities and transform existing properties to speak to the most discerning tastes and emotional needs.”
The company was founded in 2001 and focuses on creating residential and commercial projects that “meet the highest standards in terms of quality, value creation, and innovation” and has experience in all phases of the development and construction process of mixed-use properties such as multifamily, office, parking garages and retail.
The firm has long been active in the Seattle area and has been involved in a number of recent real estate transactions and projects.
Earlier this year, the group purchased a South Lake Union site where the company plans to establish a 45-story residential tower, according to The Registry’s previous reporting. The firm acquired the project site at 616 Battery Street for $40 million. The seller was Clise Properties.
Located at a major junction where Denny, Dexter, 7th and Borealis Avenue all intersect, the site previously housed the former Old Elephant Car Wash and is poised for development as Holland Partners takes its proposed project through the entitlement process. Over the summer, that project’s applicants met with the City’s Downtown Design Review Board and received approval to move ahead to a recommendation hearing. Plans include 455 residential units and between 1,755 square feet and 2,150 square feet of retail space as well as 263 parking spaces in an above- and below-grade parking structure.

All garbage, recycling, and yard/food waste pickup has been cancelled today due to unsafe road conditions.
Seattle Public Utilities says customers who normally put their waste out on Thursdays should instead set their carts out by 7 a.m. Friday morning. They may choose to delay it again, and in that case, Thursday customers should bring in their containers and will be allowed to set out double the amount of waste next week.
Tuesday and Wednesday customers will also be permitted to set double the amount of waste out next week during their normal collection days at no extra charge.
As a reminder, any time your waste is not collected by the end of the following day, you can set out double the normal amount in the next week’s collection.
